Hey!
I'm Jade and I am Chief Foiling Officer here at Oh My Gold Ldn.
Oh My Gold happened by accident. In 2018 I was working on a completely different idea, selling aromatherapy products, and I wanted foil stickers for the packaging. One very quick hyper fixation later, I had a roll of foil, a laser printer and an old laminator on my table. Add in an intimate knowledge of Photoshop from a previous lifetime, and I was making a birthday card for a friend. I started getting requests for cards and thought 'wow, people actually like this!'.
That was April. By October 2018, Oh My Gold had officially launched and we were smashing it - even if I do say so myself.
For a few years Oh My Gold was everything. Every couple of months there were new products, a new idea, a new batch of social media posts or influencer campaigns. The nights were long, mornings were early - I had big plans and a long list of new ranges I wanted to make. And I was so blessed to always have orders but somewhere between fighting the social media algorithm just to be seen, postal strikes and costs that kept rising, the spark started to dim. I wasn't enjoying it anymore, I didn't have the time to really take in all of the OMG moments I was creating because I was more anxious about creating more and more and more.
In 2021 I took on a part time job alongside what was already a full time business, which gave me some breathing room while I was still struggling with all of the other pieces at Oh My Gold. Then I decided to pause OMG for a few months in 2022. A few months became longer. I found I was enjoying the breathing space and time it allowed me to spend with my then 13 year old. By 2023 I had moved into a full time role in another company (funny story about that, but not for here probably), within 6 months I was promoted and had my own department and Oh My Gold was the furthest thing from my mind. Plot twist: I did a CIPD and somehow became an HR Manager - me, the person most likely to get sent to HR!
The years were rolling and I kept saying I'd be back. When I finish my studies. When my daughter finishes school. The machines still came out for friends' hen parties and weddings, I put my design skills into another business, and Oh My Gold started getting louder at the back of my mind asking, "when?".
If I'm honest, maybe part of me was scared, and part of me felt a bit of shame for stopping the way I did and having to start from scratch - so I carried on stalling.
But I've missed it. I've missed the relationships I built with so many of you, and I've missed creating every single day. My daughter has finished school. I'm not scared of an algorithm anymore, and I'm not worried about whether Oh My Gold is as popular as it once was. I'm just happy to have my little golden corner of the internet back. Looking back on what was created, the OMG moments, the cringe reels, the peel reveals and beautiful reviews, how could I stay away?
Thank you for being here, whether you've been with us since 2018 or you've just found us.
